October 11, 2007

This morning Leslie and I were dropped of at West End clinic where we worked for six hours meeting with patients, discussing how they have been, and administering medications. It was a nice day because I was able to see many different types of clients and it was a good experience. We met with the psychologist at the clinic for about and hour and talked about the healthcare system and his role in the clinic. We took our lunch break and after lunch we sat with one of the nurses to do paperwork, organize medications, discuss substance abuse in South Africa, mental illness, and nursing school! She found our college experience and classes to be very interesting and different than what she had gone through when she went to school in South Africa. After clinical, we had our post conference, and it was difficult to concentrate because the weather was sunny and there was a windsurfer out on the ocean outside of the window. Finally, after post conference five of us went walking to get out and be in the sun. After we came back, the power was out (go figure, since it has been going out every day this week for about an hour and a half), so we decided to go to Nandos for dinner! We had spicey rice and lemon and herb chicken! Very yummy and only $3.00! We sat around the apartment and worked on homework, and then we went to Captains for trivia and a few drinks! Everyone was there (which was nice, compared to last week) and we jumped in on the last few trivia questions for the night. Laura and I decided that a double vodka and sprite zero is our new favorite drink and is cheaper than anything there! We all sat around chit-chatting and laughing and decided that we wanted to go dancing…but of course Toby Joe’s was lame so back to Captains we went for another half hour of chatting. We came back to the flat and heated up left over Nandos for a snack and we were off to bed!
